| INTERVENTION Haus der Kunst is a Kunsthalle with a specific history in München. It started as Haus der Deutschen Kunst as a early success of Hitler propaganda. And by hosting his anti-modernist art of German national socialism till 1945. It became symbol of suppression of the art as well as of the dark side of the German history. Today, seventy years after the constructions of the Haus der Kunst began, it seems to me not only possible but also necessary to overcome the old symbols. The building being placed on South-End of the Englische Garten has been shamefully hidden by a smaller forest surrounding the north terrace and colonnades of the building to an extend that it makes the huge 120 m long facade elevation invisible. Considering parallel Neo-Classic Architecture in Ankara and other Turkish cities. It seems good idea to me to make the Hause der Kunst part of the Englische Garten by opening up some axes by creating view points in larger distances. Limestone colonnades of Haus der Kunst could thus be viewed from out of larger distances as authentic cynic views of the Englische Garten. Practically, it needs only for this aim to be reorganized the green next to the colonnades and the parking lot has to be re-designed. There is a mental and possible, potentially also practical link with the re-designed interior “Restoration of the Ehren-Halle” of the Haus der Kunst. The “Intervention” aims regenerate transparency between park and the building as well as for the public. ex cerpts from Ebru Özseçen's lecture "Intervention" at Haus der Kunst München on October 19 .2003 for the "Utopia Station" lecture series. © Haus der Kunst, München , 2003 Ebru Özseçen |
